Braiding circles are community workshops working toward open conversations, vulnerability, and interdependency.

braiding circles, started in 2021, are intimate community gatherings focused on braiding a three-strand braid while conversing about identity, experience, and belonging.

It started as a way to create more braids for larger sculptures but turned into a place for honest and open conversation. from the workshops and conversations, i began to ask folx if they wanted to have their stories recorded and shown alongside the work. this addition of oral histories deepens understanding about issues that affect bipoc folx in society today.

the sculptures that emerge from these are all organic and engender the same feelings that the stories exude. voices, whispering and shadow / echo / memory aRE THE TWO SHOWS THAT HOUSE THE BRAIDS THE COMMUNITY ASSISTED IN MAKING.
